BF Adventure is an outdoor centre and charity in Cornwall. At the centre BFA help disadvantaged and disabled children and young people to believe in themselves and make positive decisions for their future. Most BFA clients face many challenges in their young life including: family breakdown, bereavement, domestic violence, drug misuse, poverty, mental health issues and disability.
BF Adventure uses the medium of outdoor activities to provide each young person with a programme tailor-made to their needs. Equipped with increased confidence, new skills and a positive outlook most children will return to school or college or enter employment when they leave us.
Without our support many of these young people would face a downward spiral towards a loss of self-esteem, homelessness, crime and drug use.
Funds raised may be used to...
...raise money for our BUILDING BRIGHTER FUTURES APPEAL to replace our temporary portable buildings with new and more indoor space.
Provision of new buildings will allow us to:...
...support twice as many children and young people to find their feet and make the most of their lives - Give 300 disabled people and their carers opportunities for urgently needed respite breaks - Help twice as many young people to achieve accreditations using additional classroom space & educate twice as many children about healthy eating and offer them a nutritious meal that they wouldn't have received at home
To get the building project started and to be able to apply for match funding we will need to raise an initial £50k.

Carefree works with young people in and leaving care to give them the chance to do things for themselves and others. Growing up in care can be very challenging for a young person. Difficult early experiences and loss can leave young people vulnerable to poor outcomes as young adults; for example, nationally care leavers are 5 times less likely to get 'good' GCSE's and 3 times more likely to be unemployed as young adults.
Carefree works with partners including BF Adventure to promote confidence, resilience and the chance to develop the skills of being a self-reliant adult. We have a strong focus on peer mentoring, training young people to take responsibility for themselves and support their peers. We work with almost 50% of young people in care in Cornwall at any one time and our work at BF, combining the joy of outdoor education with the confidence that comes from working as a team and achieving a goal like climbing or canoeing, is central to our work.
The Cornwall Charity Challenge 2012 will also be used as a platform for young adults that are supported by Carefree to build skills and experience though working on the event in a range of roles.
